This Christmas is set to be the most ethical ever, in terms of how consumers in the UK are choosing to spend their money.
iNews highlighted a report from Ethical Consumer, which noted that the popularity of ethical goods has increased by 3.2 per cent this year.
While this trend for ethical shopping covers everything from clothing to furniture, it’s the market for ethical food that has seen the biggest growth, rising by 9.7 per cent since the start of 2017.
Sustainable fish has seen the biggest gains this year, the website revealed, with director of Ethical Consumer Rob Harrison explaining that this is the result of years of hard work by those in the industry.
“One star performer this year, sustainable fish which grew by nearly 37 per cent, is a case in point. Certifying a fishery as sustainable is not a simple business, and the MSC’s work over 20 years is beginning to show real impact,” he asserted.
It’s not only the fish itself that can be sustainably caught though. You can also buy products like ethical caviar online that allow you to indulge in treats without worrying about the environmental impact.
The publication also offered some advice to consumers who want to shop more ethically in the year ahead. One of the top tips is to support local, independent shops and food producers. Buying produce that’s grown or produced nearby is also the best option.
Here at KC Caviar, we offer sustainable and ethically produced caviar, which doesn’t involve the sturgeon fish being killed or harmed in any way. Our process uses controlled ovulation to collect the caviar, which doesn’t cause harm to the fish, unlike a forced cesarean, a practice used by many caviar producers who certify their products as ‘no-kill’.
